I tap the backspace key again, watching another sentence vanish. It’s the fifth time I’ve rewritten my “About” page today. Who knew boiling down your essence into a couple of snappy paragraphs could be this hard? Every draft either sounds too pompous or painfully dull. How do you introduce yourself to the invisible people who stumble upon your website, wanting to meet the ‘real you’ behind the words?

“Hey there, I’m Megan,” I start yet another attempt. Too casual? Maybe. But it’s me.

“Writer of worlds” — nope, scratch that. Sounds like I’m wearing a cape and holding a globe. Delete.

“Spinner of tales” — ugh, what am I? A fantasy-themed DJ? Again, delete.

“Fantasy enthusiast” — well, that’s understating it. I live and breathe the genre.

“Okay, let’s keep it simple,” I mutter to myself, fingers hovering over the keys. My visitors don’t need grandiose language; they just want to know the person behind the stories.

“Hi! I’m Megan, the real person behind “Whispers and Shadows, the first book in my Nora and Sebastian Paranormal Urban Fantasy series. I’m on a mission to craft stories that are your escape hatch from reality, your secret passageway to worlds unseen.”

Phew, that sounded more like it. A smile tugs at my lips as I imagine you, my reader nodding along. There’s something about stripping away the fluff that feels authentic, like I’m inviting you for coffee rather than a sales pitch.

“Guys, I can’t wait for you to meet Nora, an obscure Seattle novelist whose curiosity and caring know no bounds,” I type with renewed vigor. “And Sebastian, her snarky sentient crow BFF who just can’t seem to keep his beak shut for more than a minute.” Wait! there’s more — shadows lurking in an abandoned speakeasy, a decades old mystery untangling thread by thread, and a world that seems just like ours… until you look closer.”

I lean back in my chair, this “About” page is finally coming together. It’s not just about listing accolades or past experiences; it’s about sharing my passion for writing fantasy, for creating universes where anything is possible, and for giving life to characters who might just whisper to you long after you close the book.

“Whether it’s fantasy adventure with daring quests, or urban tales with a supernatural twist, I pour my soul into every page. If you’re here for the magic, the mystery, and maybe a little mayhem — Welcome!”

There, that should do it. It’s genuine, a bit quirky, and totally me. Now all I have to do is work up the courage to hit ‘Publish.’
